WAGYU BEEF CONGEE

Hubby and I was in JUSCO supermarket at Mid Valley this afternoon when a promoter approached and asked us to try some Australian beef fillet cooked with black pepper sauce. Yummzzz..very tender indeed. She was actually promoting the Australian beef when something better caught Hubby's attention. This is the first time we discovered Wagyu beef available at JUSCO and we were super excited. The Wagyu beef was thinly sliced, most perfect for steamboat or shabu-shabu but Hubby got a better idea. WAGYU BEEF CONGEE!!!
For the congee, I added in some dried scallops for some extra sweetness.

I didn't want to spoil the natural taste of the wagyu beef so I marinated it with only ginger juice. Place the slices of wagyu beef on the bowl, make sure the congee is boiling hot and pour it over the beef.

The heat of the congee will actually cooked the beef. Give it a good stir after 2 minutes, a dash of pepper...and ATTACK!!!! OOoo.....just can't describe how tender the meat was and the beef juice really enhance the sweetness of the congee.

Constant Craver: At first, Hubby even suggested to open a can of abalone to put inside the porridge. Hahaha! That would really be luxurious. But then again, i don't think wagyu and abalone is a good combination.

Looks like an extremely delicious bowl of porridge. I like your creativity. :-)

This was the porridge that you told me you were cooking? Wah, like that I surely want a bowl (or two!). Ha ha ha...

lyrical lemongrass: Hahaha..thanks but then I think Hubby more creative to come out with the congee idea. I was busy looking for wagyu tenderloin!

wmw: Eh? Did I tell you am cooking porridge?? But between wagyu and frog, i prefer frog porridge.

bee nee: Thanks for dropping by my blog. Hahaha...oh yes...the best way to enjoy the tender and sweet wagyu beef without overpowering its taste. :)

Wow, very creative of you. Can imagine how yummy it tastes. You can get wagyu tenderloin at Mr. Ho's in Bangsar Shopping Centre if you're looking for it.

Wah you and your hubby are real luxurious foodies :) I tried grilled wagyu beef only once in Ninja Jones and found it a bit too gamey and strong-tasting for my liking. But your porridge looks nice...reminds me that I haven't eaten nice hot beef porridge in a while :)

boo: Oh, thanks for your info. I just read in the paper about Mr Ho too. I wanna try doing wagyu steak at home.

Xiu Long Bao: Actually only 5 very very thinly slice pieces only. Barely enuff for 1 person.

pink elle: Strong taste? Beefy taste?

What a good idea!

Pink Elle said...

Yes, a bit stronger than beef. Something like what venison tastes like but it's probably just me!

tummythoz: When comes to food, any idea also can come up. LOL

pink elle: Issit? Hubby and I didn't find it beefy though. Hmm..probably also depends on which part you had. Never mind, i will experiment all the parts and let you know. Hehe!

Jason and Jackson: Last time when my mum was around, I was also forbidden to eat beef at home, so much so, i have to sit outside the house to finish off the beef burger i tar-baued from McDonalds!

This looks good! I want to try!

Wong said...

Yummy !!! Can try to put in a fresh egg with the beef before pouring the porridge.

Precious Pea said...

Jason: The bowl is a freebie...cannot remember, must be Darlie then.

tigerfish: Oh yes...do try. It's yummy!

Wong: I thought of that too but I find that when you put in egg, the congee gets watery as you eat. But will try it next time.
