FEASTING ALONE....sigh..so lonely!

It was 5.30 p.m. when I left my meeting place in Shah Alam yesterday. Hubby informed that he will be having a farewell dinner with his friend who is leaving for Beijing soon while dad is at ‘work’. Sigh, that means I will be having dinner all alone. Knowing that I will be too lazy to drive out again after reaching home, I decided to ‘tar-bau’ (takeaway) something back. Out of sudden, something crawled and filled up my mind, CRABS!!! I know I definately must have it for dinner otherwise I will sure be awake the whole night thinking of it!!! So, should I go to King Crab? Greenview? South Pacific? Problem is, I don’t think they will entertain my order for 1 person. Furthermore, it would not taste good when takeaway. What I need is fresh and alive crabs but where to get it at this time of the day?

Ah-ha……luck is on my side. I suddenly remembered there is a shop selling fresh mudcrabs as well as frozen seafood in SS2. I was praying hard they didn’t close down their business. Boy oh boy…I was so happy when I saw they were opened and lots of crabs available in different sizes in their huge aquariums.

My chosen victims only cost me RM22 (RM28 per kg). By the way, I opted to kill the crabs myself cos I love to kill crabs just as much as eating them. Hehehehe…psycho eh? My crabs were very fierce, showing me their claws whenever I look at them!
What is the best and fastest way to cook fresh crabs? Steamed of course. I put in lots of minced garlic and ginger, a dash of soy sauce, a dash of fish sauce and a teaspoon of Chinese cooking wine both before and after steamed. Steamed for about 5 – 6 mins…..and ohh la la…..a very yummy plate of aromatic steamed crabs. Although the crabs were quite small, it was full of meat; chunky, juicy and sweet. Very good quality indeed.

Just in case you have weird cravings like me, you can get fresh crabs here:

wah... you had me drooling over my keyboard. I'm dying for my mom's chili crab. If only they sell the same type of crab as in Asia, I would cook it and eat it alone because better half find eating crab is too messy affair.

i have to salute you hehehe cos i dunno how to kill crabs esp live ones. thank goodness no one in the family have cravings for crabs *phewww* fresh crabs like those two are best to be steamed, wise choice indeed ;-)

Cooking Ninja: I like Chilli Crabs too especially dipping bun/bread into the gravy. Aiii..the art of eating crab is to enjoy the long process of struggling to dig each and single piece of meat from the crab. I spent 1 hour and 30 mins savouring my crabs yesterday.

babe_kl: Next time, invite me over to teach you how to kill. Very easy and guarantee no mess.

lolz! Poison Pea....

*back to serious face*
how did you kill the crab? Sticking a chopstick into crab head or samurai style?

Hohoho ur skill must be veli high level ady....

Precious Pea said...

teckie: My crabs cannot be compared to FBB's la...malu only.

xiu long bao: Eh, what dogs got to do with crabs? Two totally different creature ma.

wmw: U wanna watch me live in action?

weiwei: Welcome welcome! Thanks for dropping by and do visit more often. :)

jian: Actually a few people also gave me that nick..but in actual fact..am very sweet and nice (wanna throw up)...LOL! Back the the crabs, i tried the sticking chopstick method but find it too slow and painful for the crab, so what i do is, turn the crab upside down, aim the middle and use a very sharp knife....one slit on the middle all the way down but before the shell...die immediately.

Demo! Demo! Demo!
Actually did think to try preparing crabs as I do see live ones being sold at just a fraction of the cooked ones. But todate, I dare not, the crabs may just end up to be pets instead.

no lar, penyayang anjing like me luv all animals mar. So for me, the crabs will end up like wat tummythoz commented.

The Drool Team said...

wow u very brave...killing the crabs yourself.

Precious Pea said...

tummythoz: Another method is to freeze it for a while, say 5 minutes. My brother in law did that to lobster so i dunno if it works with crabs.

xiu long bao: Err..i think the gluttony side of me took over the compassion side. Anyway, for your info, i used to keep hermit crabs until they die one by one that i decided to stop keeping them. Too sad when they die.

drool team: Thank you..hehehe..kk crabs cheap hor?

tigerfish said...

Wah...this is my dish man! I like to steam fresh crabs too but I scared to kill crabs leh. :O Which part of crab you like the best ?

Tummythoz said...

Freeze alive before chop chop chop? Easier?

I must say this (enviously, of course). I eat alone, take instant noodle. U eat alone, get crabs. *pouts*

Precious Pea said...

tigerfish: I like to eat crabs in orderly manner, starting from attacking the roe (if any), then proceed to the claw which is less messy and then finally take my own sweet time to savour the body and legs. How about you?

tummythoz: Should be easier but i prefer the crabs to struggle struggle when i chop it. WUAHAHA!!!!!!

Jian said...

Wuah...indeed, the samurai style...Fast and painless. lolz!

hm ya...so crab expert ar, how do eat the legs? poke it with satay stick? I luv crabs but eating the body and the legs are a pain in the ass. Restaurant dun provide satay sticks.

KampungboyCitygal said...

whoa..u really know how to enjoy ya..steam crab with rice wine is so sweet..im drooling now

tigerfish said...

Wah...so orderly arh!!! I usually eat the pincer claws first (chim gong), coz so far I not so lucky to savor crabs alone, so if I don't attack the claws, there will be no claws (of meaty flesh) left. LOL!

Have a problem with the body coz usually those crab meat gets stuck in between my teeth :O ....hahah...old liow lah...wat to do.

mama bok said...

Yummy..!! but i've always liked my crabs with chilli. :) coz' i love the gravy.. lah.. ;)

Kenny Mah said...

Very impressed la... dinner for one, crab some more. If it were me, just instant noodles if I don't eat outside. Sad hor? *sniffs, sniffs*

MeltingWok said...

wahh PP, so siok hor, alone with 2 crustacean friends, I wouldn't mind man, if I got friends like these hehehe :) That's one good eat-alone-feast I'd enjoy !:)

jason said...

Wahahaha! Laughing non stop after read your samurai skill!

Precious Pea said...

sc: Even scarier when you see how terrified they were when they saw me approching them with a chopper!!

Jian: Hmm..so far i got no prob with crabs...so never use satay stick before.

Kampungboycitygal and kenny: Hehehe...what to do, eating alone already so pitiful, so must eat well to compensate the loneliness.

tigerfish: Hahaha! I also get those soft shell stuck in between my teeth. Nothing to do with old or young la.

mamabok: Gravy so good when dipped with bread isn't it? For me, any style will do.

meltingwok: Yah..so shiok. I smsed my hubby and asked him to guess what am having. He so smart....he guessed crabs leh!

jason: Hehehehehe...scare or not of your this samurai sista?
