MACAU'S CHAR CHAN TENG (CAFE)

We decided to forego the hotel’s complimentary lousy breakfast and so the three of us wandered off searching for food around the hotel. Not too far from the hotel, we came to a street with some nice and clean café aka HK Char Chan Teng style offering set breakfast. Can’t go wrong since all the diners are local residents at that neighbourhood.

We just picked one with the most diners to try and we were quite impressed with the friendliness of the waitress and the lady owner. Ordering was easy since they have English menu and even without the menu, I already knew what am going to have.

Silky smooth to the throat Milk Tea aka Si Mut Nai Cha was hubby and my choice while dad had his usual Yin Yong (coffee+tea).

As usual, dad always opt for fish and so he had the Fish Cake Noodle. He gave a big thumbs up for the springy noodle and surprisingly, the fish cake was quite tasty too and quite different from the ‘lack-of-fish-taste’ fishcake available in Malaysia. But the lady owner was scratching her head when my dad asked her what type of fish used to make the fish cake. LOL!

Quite predictable, Hubby just can’t say no to beef brisket and so he had the Curry Beef Brisket Noodle which was again, surprisingly good. The curry flavour was quite mild but it was just perfect to go with the tender stewed beef briskets with some chunky tendons. Hubby was really satisfied with his order.

As for me, I had Wanton Noodle which came with 4 big, voluptuous and juicy Wanton. Each bite was full of pork and prawns. Equally as good as those in Hong Kong but at much cheaper price.

Just look at how big this wanton was, even bigger than sui kow in KL.

I spotted something in the menu, one of Macau’s delicacy; Pork Chop Bun. Since I didn’t have the time to queue for the famous stall that starts business at 3.00 p.m., I insist that we must at least try it here. And no regrets, the pork chop bun was very good. That juicy piece of pork chop was so well marinated and the juices from the pork just drizzled out as you bite on it. My only complain was the piece of bone on the pork chop, I would prefer it to be boneless!

We left the place with a satisfied grin and decided to return the same day for dinner before taking our flight home. The lady owner recommended us the Baked Mussel with Garlic topped with cheese which I like it very much. I was impressed with the freshness of the mussels. The garlic sauce was really nice especially when eaten with white rice.

Grilled Short Ribs was served with Fries and I thought this dish look more like a Western Food than a dish to go with rice. Nevertheless, it was nicely done as the generous portion of ribs was soft and flavourful.

Lastly, a plate of Stir-fry Choy Sum which I dunno how but somehow they managed to cook it wonderfully good. Now, why can’t I cook green veggie like this at home? It was crunchy and I believe the stock makes a whole lot of difference to the end result. This plate of plain veggie somehow was my favourite dish of the night, probably cos I have been having too much meat for the past few days.

It was yet again another memorable trip for us, and Macau., I will definitely come back soon, and I mean, real soon to continue my food expedition in this wonderful place called MACAU!

Coketai, both quite different. Teh Tarik more on condensed milk whereas Milk Tea more on evaporated milk. And also it's hard to find good Teh Tarik here cos some the tea too diluted, some too sweet, etc. For me, I definately prefer Si Mut Nai Cha.

NJoe: The centuries old weighing scale at home already spoilt long long time ago. LOL!

BTW, what so much food? That is supposed to be for 2 meals. A bowl of noodle each for breakfast and 3 dishes for 3 person for dinner. Errr...not too much right? @_@
