Harlow!! Am back from my KK trip...had lots of fun but let me continue with my Phuket trip so that I can finish it off before I start posting on my KK trips. Ooopss..that reminds me that I still have my Siem Reap trip pending. Sorry Teckiee, I know you are waiting..hehehe.
The reason I separated Day 2 into two posts is because the dinner we had that night was the highlight of my trip, hence, I do think it deserves a post on its own. First of all, thanks to Max for his recommendation, who kept telling us that this place is a must-go for seafood. And now, I will sing the same song if anyone ask me where to eat in Phuket.
Situated at the east side of Phuket, the journey from Patong Beach to Liem Hin Pier took us about 40 minutes. As we were nearing the Pier, I saw a signboard bearing this "TSUNAMI HAZARD ZONE". Gulp!!! Once we reached the Pier, we saw two big seafood restaurants. With Max's instruction imprinted in my head, we immediately walked towards the end of the pier and told the men there that we are heading out for Kuwit Seafood (turn out its actually known as Kru Suwit Seafood Restaurant). We were immediately ushered to the end of the pier to take a boat ride there. Cool...the nice white yacht looks impressive!
The Liem Hin Pier
But wait...turned out that we have to take the sampan look-a-like motorboat and not the nice big white yacht! Double Gulp!! Now am more worried about the boat capsizing instead of tsunami. Aikks..no life jacket??
The ride was surprisingly pleasant; calm sea and cool breeze. I was totally surprised to see that this restaurant is quite huge.
Woof woof woof…huh? Was I missing my two boys too much till am imagining things? Turned out that there is a pretty doggie welcoming us.
As soon as we arrived, the pretty doggie kept sniffing and following me around. So sweet *grin*!
This floating restaurant is huge and so we decided to take a walk around the restaurant before ordering our dinner.
Using the fish-farming concept, the life seafood was displayed in respective traps instead of the usual aquariums style.
All you have to do is to go around walking on the wooden planks to choose your own seafood; from fish to prawn, from eel to crabs, from lobster to clams, from oysters to puffer fish! Hahaha..ok ok..we were told the puffer fish is only for display. Took quite a lot of pictures, so here are some to feast your eyes:
We were also surprised to see some really exotic fishes in the traps…so excitedly I told him that the guy who took our order that I wanna try it. However, we were told that those exotic fishes are for display only. Chey…
After ordering our dinner, we went to choose our table and what could be better than having seafood while sitting next to the beautiful ocean. Now, here is a picture of the view right in front of our table.
While I was busy admiring the view, the pretty doggie was seated not far from us and from my observation, I finally found out that this is not an ordinary doggie. Her role is to welcome diners!!!!! Amazing as whenever there is a boat approaching the restaurant from far, she would excitedly bark and welcome the diners just like how she welcomed me. Chey…I thought she only do that to ME!
You must be very eager to know what we had for dinner right? As this restaurant only accepts cash, we didn’t want to end up washing plates in the kitchen, so we decided to order something simple. Sob sob! There goes my lobster! Anyway, first dish served was the succulent fresh oysters which only costs RM3 per piece. Hubby termed it as “very voluptuous flesh” and it was really good. Amazing as I didn’t expect Phuket to have such good quality oysters.
The BIG, JUICY and BLOODY BBQ cockles came next which was really good. The texture is different from those in Malaysia as this is firmer and it doesn’t have the bloody fishy smell at all. Really really good especially dipped with their lips-burning grinded chilli sauce.
The Steamed Mussels with Basils was pretty average to me since I am not a big fan of mussels. Hubby finished off the dish with a satisfaction grin.
I really didn’t expect much for their recommended curry crab, thanks to the bad experience I once had in Bangkok. When the dish arrived, the curry smell was really appetizing. One spoonful of the gravy into my mouth…KABOOM!! IT WAS SO TASTY!!! The curry flavour blended so well with the crab without overpowering one another. RECOMMENDED!!!
Our favourite dish of the night has got to be the Salt & Pepper Mantis Prawns. The Mantis Prawns were huge and meaty and it was cooked just perfection. The outer layer especially the legs were deep fried till crispy while the meat inside is still juicy and sweet. My favourite part is the head where all the roes were hidden…oooooo la la la la la la!!
The total bill only came up to RM140 which I find really reasonable price to pay for such good ambience, good food and good experience. As we were about to leave, the pretty doggie came to us again and sent us off to our boat with a sad look on her face. At that moment, I really felt like grabbing her and bring her home with me. Don’t worry, pretty doggie, I will sure come back again to visit you and ahem...for the food too.
A well recommended place for seafood lover but then do bear in mind this:
a) Arrange with your cab driver to wait for you cos it’s a very secluded area
b) The boat ride from the pier to the restaurant is free; so do not pay if they ask you for money.
c) Go there early so you can watch the sunset while having dinner..ohh..and also it’s pitch dark when you finish dinner so getting off the boat at the pier is quite scary.

Hi, how did you go there? You rent a car or you book a taxi?
I am going phuket in April. But this place seems to be a bit off the track. Worth visiting? Good and Cheap? Since there is many seafood restaurants in phuket.
soo sean: We hired a taxi to bring us to Liem Hin pier to board a boat to Kru Suwit..all mentioned in my blog. Yes, it's off the track so remember to ask the taxi driver to wait for you otherwise you will have problem getting back to your hotel. Personally I find it quite an experience dining in open sea. Not exactly 'cheap' but i shall say reasonable.
