Too short a trip for island hopping, we decided to visit the morning market in town as recommended by Max. After a hearty complimentary breakfast at the hotel, Hubby went to double check with the hotel reception on the exact location of this wet market. He was told that the market closes around 10 a.m. and since it was already 8.30 a.m., there won’t be much to see since the journey there alone will take another 30 mins.
The hotel reception however told us that there is another wet market near Patong Beach if we are really keen on visiting wet market. Such good service, the hotel shuttle actually dropped us off right in front of the market.
It is an indoor wet market which is pretty new and very clean too although the meat section produce unpleasant smell. The veggie section is always a favourite of mine as you can find many familiar as well as many never seen before veggies. I simply love the combination of the colours from the veggies, at the spur of that moment, I don’t mind being a vegetarian. I repeat, only at that very moment..hehe..nah...love meat and seafood too much.
Eggplants; deep purple, light green and white. The only time I tried these were when they cooked it in green curry.
Awwww…can you guess what this picture reminds me of???? Sorry, no rewards for guessing correctly...hehe.
Sniff…sniff sniff….mmm….something certainly smell nice coming from one corner of the market…so off I went, following the trail of the wonderful smell and I found this lady busy frying chickens!
But wait, it turned out that the wonderful smell is not from the fried chickens but from the big wok of bubbling hot oil full of chicken skins and pandan leaves. The aroma is simply breath-taking. Yes…I found the right word to describe the smell…BREATH TAKING!!!
My favourite section of the market has got to be the seafood section. Most of the seafood was still alive. Yes, even the lala aka clams were alive. This tray of clams caught my attention as they were spitting out water like musical fountain.
Look at the big oysters!! Everything is so fresh and cheap. I think we should book an apartment with kitchen during our next visit to Phuket.
Soft shell crabs, if not mistaken, is used as condiments in Thai salad.
Ewww…something slittery but certainly no hissing sound. My favourite eel!!!
OH MY GOD!!!! Isn't that tortoise?? As I was taking this photo, the tortoise popped out his head and stared at me. Throughout our 5 seconds of eye contact, he was begging me to get him out of here.
Lastly, a stack of flower crabs.
From the market, we took a slow walk towards the Patong Beach. There are lots of shops and pubs along the way, so it was quite an interesting walk. Super happy when I saw a few shops selling Gameboy games and I just can’t believe it, they even have latest game like Ratatouille. Since it’s a game related to food, hehehe, instinctly I know I should grab it. Also bought Mario Party which is my current favourite now. (Hubby already complained that I neglect him since I was so engrossed with the game). Oh yah…two games for RM60 only!!!!!
Finally, we are in Patong Beach, a very popular among the tourist.
The beach is so clean; with a light turquoise blue sea and the beige sandy beach. Just can’t believe that this beautiful seaside was once destroyed by tsunami. We took a walk along the seaside and usually am very paranoid when walking in the sand barefooted but this beach is so clean, you can’t find a single piece of trash!!
Even this doggie enjoyed his morning exercise here. I think my Pea and Pumpkin would love it too.
Parasailing, something that I will consider trying…err…maybe next trip..when am more prepared. Hehehehe.
It’s a hot hot day so we stopped to have ice-cream at Baskin Robbins. I had the Macadamia with Cream which is the flavour of the month. Quite disappointed as it was too sweet and could hardly taste the Macadamia nuts. Still prefer Haagan Daz Macadamia flavour..mmm....
Feeling a bit tired, we went for foot massage, something which we will not miss whenever we are in Thailand cos it’s so cheap. This one if if not mistaken was only RM25 per hour. I also learnt something new as the masseur told me that if you want them to squeeze your leg harder, just say “nak nak”.
Lunch time….we went scouting for local food but seems like there are none around Patong Beach. Probably cos they cater for tourist so we walked further up from the beach and finally found this small shop selling noodles.
I had the Duck Kuey Teow Soup again but it was not as good as the one we had yesterday. The soup somehow was not as flavourful but since we were hungry, we happily finished off our noodle. Quite a small portion with lots of beansprouts and the amount of noodle given was really pathetic.
Before heading back to hotel to rest, we went searching for snacks from those roadside vendors. Lots of unidentified yummy looking packed local dishes but knowing that I have a weak tummy, Hubby didn’t allow me to try.
We spotted the big chicken Maryland being grilled over a charcoal fire and we knew it is a must try so we bought 2 pieces. In Bangkok, a piece of drumstick usually costs us only 50 cents to RM1 but this one costs us RM4! The chicken looks too good to be missed so we ended up buying two pieces.
The journey back to the hotel while holding on to the grilled chicken was torturing. It smells so good!!! We also bought some beer to go with it and what other better place to enjoy the chicken than at the hotel’s balcony, overlooking the swimming pool and part of Patong town?
Before I end my Day 2 Part 1, just to let you know that the next post is the most memorable part of my trip, albeit the reason why I split up Day 2 into two parts. So, please stay tune yah.

nkotb: The chicken very well marinated. They gave me a packet of fiery hot and sour chilli sauce but the chicken already very tasty on its own. As for the breakfast, the sausages were wonderful cos it has got the bouncy texture as you bite into it.

Team bsg: Errr....no lobster, no one-kini girls, no akua but got Singha! Hehehe.
The beach is so clean because they hire people to "tapis" the sand, I swear. I saw people using big filters and tapis the sand so it's spotless. Tourism Malaysia should learn from them. ;)
Pea: When are you bringin' me to the beach?
Pumpkin: Woof, woof, I also want to go!
Tigerfish: WHere is my deep fried chicken skin? :P
