Happy Birthday, my dear friends!

I just came back from downtown after a wonderful night spent celebrating WMW's and Jason's birthday which falls on 31 Oct and 1 Nov respectively. Together with Boolicious, we headed to Jalan Alor since that would be more convenient to meet up with Jason who is living at the other side of the town. To me, the mention of Jalan Alor will always synonymous with Wong Ah Wah Restaurant as their grilled chicken wings are always my favourite. And when food bloggers meets, foodcrawl has become a norm and so, this is how we celebrate two of my dear friends' birthday.

Round 1 : Wong Ah Wah (WAW) Restaurant @ Jln Alor
Our first stop was at Wong Ah Wah Restaurant, located at the end of Jalan Alor, well it much depends on which end you are coming from. But one would not miss this restaurant as it has expanded to a few shop lots. A must try of course, would be their grilled chicken wings. This charcoal grilled chicken wings were absolutely superb. Best eaten while it's still hot (well, beware cos you might suffer sore throat the next day due to heatiness) and the skin still crispy. It's so well marinated, you don't even need any dippings but for me, I love my food to be spicy, so the chilli sauce served with the wings give some kick into it. Yumz!!

During our last visit to WAW, we remembered the Kam Heong Lala (Clams) was not too bad and so we decided to order it again this round. I thought Kam Heong gravy is dry and should be laden with dried shrimp, cili padi and curry leaves. However, when our order came, we were surprised to find it wet. Tastewise was pretty average but good thing the lalas were fresh.

The Grilled Squid was a tad too salty, perhaps perfect to go with a plate of white rice. I still like the texture of the squid which was cooked to perfection.

Lastly, Grilled Stingray which got thumbups from Boo and myself. The thick flesh were juicy and cooked just right. Sadly, the sambal belacan dipping that was served with the stingray was on the bitter side. Nevertheless, the stingray still tastes good eaten on its own.

Round 2: Muar Restaurant @ Tengkat Tong Shin
Birthday girl was craving for the deep fried egg from Muar Restaurant, so we have to make our birthday girl's wish come true right? Here you go, a plate of Deep Fried Egg or in Cantonese 'Ja Dan' which sounded like BOMB. The eggs were deepfried in hot oil to create the flaky texture and then drizzled with kicap. Really good to go with white rice, which we did.

Another dish craved by our birthday girl; Butter Kailan. The Kai Lan was shredded, deep fried and then coated with butter. Ahem..suddenly veggie doesn't sound so healthy anymore right? It's like eating seaweed but Jason said it tasted like kacang putih. Eh? I forgot to ask him which part tasted like kacang putih *scratch head*
Lastly, cendol to finish off our meal. I find the sweetness level of their cendol is not consistent. The first time I had was so sweet till I developed toothache, second time was perfect and this time, it was slightly on the sweet side but still bearable. So to be on the safe side, perhaps u should tell them your preference when you order.

Round 3: Max! Kitchen & Wines @ Tengkat Tong Shin
The last stop was at Max! Kitchen for dessert as we do not want to walk too far off. We ordered a souffle to share as well as a scoop of latte ice-cream each. It was so sweet of Max to put in one candle for the birthday girl and boy.

Thanks to Boo for giving me a loan; her share of the latte ice-cream for me to snap a picture. Love it, so creamy yet not too sweet.

And that completes the birthday celebration. To WMW and Jason, I hope that you both enjoyed the dinner and once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and may all your wishes come true!
