MY FIRST DAY OF BEING 30

Gone were the days when I could still call myself a 20-something. Yes, I turned 30 today. Initially I was a little bit sad upon reaching the milestone, but hey, life's been treating me well for the past 3 decades, I should look forward to more great time ahead!!

I woke up to a perfect morning. No glaring sunshine, no scorching heat. In fact, it was gloomy and it rained the whole day. My area was so misty and it almost felt like winter. That is a beautiful start to my first day of being 30. I spent the day with Hubby and Dad at One Utama. Reason being, Hubby wanted to buy me lunch since Dad insisted on buying me dinner. Lunch was at Kura in One World Hotel.

Being my 3rd visit to Kura, I already knew what I wanted. This post will only feature on food I had for my birthday, I will do a separate post on Kura next time. Lately, I have been watching a HK TVB program on food in Hokkaido and I was craving for sea urchin. A tiny bowl of sea urchin or a quarter cart costs RM45. Seriously, I need a few more bowls of this to satisfy my craving. It was so good....soft, smooth and sweet, ahh...I shall call this the 3S-es! The waiter who took our order told us that the cockles were fresh, hence we decided to give it a go since the photo in the menu looks gigantic and certainly worth RM50. We were stunned when we saw the tiny portion, barely even enough for one.
PC080010

My dad never fancy Japanese food. For your information, there was once I caught him eating sushi dipped with Maggi chili sauce. He wanted something light and soupy, so we ordered the Nabeyaki Udon (RM25) for him. Served in a claypot, the portion was generous and came together with tempura prawn, hotate, egg, mushroom and veggies. Dad said it was tasty and he loved it very much.
PC080008

Hubby had sushi with Yakiniku set(RM42). It came with a platter of fresh sushi....
PC080016

and a sizzling plate of Yakiniku beef. The set came with an appetizer of the day, chawan mushi, miso soup and fruits. Hubby complained that they should have given a bowl of rice to go with the tasty beef. I gladly shared mine with him.
PC080013

Kura's Sakura Chirashidon Set (RM35) gets my vote. I find this the most value for money. Assorted fresh sashimi were nicely assembled onto the vinegared rice. The sashimis were fresh and chunky. Portion was huge and there is no way I could finish this on my own. Hubby had some of the vinegared rice to go with his beef and he enjoyed the rice too.
PC080018

It was a wonderful lunch, thanks Hubby! Now, for my birthday present, guess what Hubby bought? A Christmas tree!!! Nah, kidding. The Christmas tree was not meant to be my birthday present, it was meant for...ahem, Christmas-lah what else? Jusco was having sale and our 5ft fiber optic tree was slashed from RM299 to RM199.
PC080023

It was not easy chosing the ornaments. I wanted to have a theme colour. I was torn between silver-blue, silver-purple, gold-silver and gold-green. I have chosen a basket full of silver-blue ornaments when I finally switched to gold-green at the last minute.
PC080025

This was my first time decorating a Christmas tree and it was not as easy as I thought. I could never achieve those elegant flowy big bows I saw in shopping centres so this is the best I could create after spending more than an hour decorating.
PC080040

As I mentioned earlier, we got a fiber-optic tree so it already has in-built lightings at the tip of each branch. It changes from blue to green to gold to red to orange to purple. Very nice! Here are a few shots I managed to take.

Red
PC080033

Green on the way to gold..
PC080031

Can you spot the two toys on the tree? Yes, those are for Pea and Pumpkin! Pea was already playing with his while I was busy decorating the tree. Eeeww..slimy saliva!
PC080045

Pumpkin's snowman!
PC080046

And now, for my birthday present, Hubby got me something that I have been hinting for the past couple of months.
PC080056

DKNY Be Delicious perfume! Now in Christmas gift pack...looks like milo tin to me.
PC080051

It came with 100 ml of perfume, a body lotion and another small bottle of perfume which is perfect when I go travelling. Thanks Hub, now I feel soooo DELICIOUS!!!
PC080053

Dad bought me dinner at my current favourite restaurant in Setia Alam, that would be in another post next time! Thanks to all of you guys and girls as well as my aunts and cousins for the birthday wishes.

I really enjoyed my 1st day of being 30!

NJoe: Thanks again. Well, actually I never like the sun. Am a person who enjoys rain and gloomy day. But then again, it also means no fishing if rain. So i guess it's a love-hate relationship between me and the Sun.

Linda: Thank you. Hahaha..why King Crab? In fact, Hubby initially tot of bringing me there but we were there last year for my birthday. That was how we ended up at Kura.

emily.t: Thank you thank you :)

After following your blog for over a year, I noticed a trend. Most celebratory events seems to occur at King crab. LOL I was also looking forward to what new dishes you'd be trying this time =D

Precious Pea said...

Anton: Thank you for the lovely birthday wishes. Hahaha, there is one photo of me in one of the old old post. ;)

ling239: Thank you Ling. Yes, birthday not complete without a feast!

Jun: If you like sashimi, you will like sea urchin. Errmm...closest to it that I could think of right now is lobster brain. I eaten sea urchin many times in Aust, am sure you can get it there. Yes yes..the perfume smells soooo yummy!! Let me wear some to sleep tonite and see if hubby bites! Ouch!

wmw: Sounded so food-related hor?

kenny: Am sure you will have a blast with your loved ones when you hit 30!

icook4fun: Thank you :)

Linda: LOL!! I know what you mean. Anniversary, birthday, farewell...in fact, there are many many many more celebrations at King Crab that I didn't post. Just went again last week for a minor food bloggers gathering.

n tt christmas tree is beautiful, esp in red.

Precious Pea said...

Babe: We got the same taste! Perhaps DKNY should find us food bloggers to be the spokesperson hor? Hahaha!

terri: Thank you Terri!! I actually regretted getting Gold-Green combination. Somehow the one I saw in the shopping centre with the same colour looks so much better. I wonder if it is a bit too much to go grab another colour combo for next year. Those ornaments not cheap.

Lushia: Thank you. Certainly not too late.

Cokeworld Citizen said...

Eh you din realise 'Moonlight Resonance', Tavia Yeung Yi is already 30? Thats what i meant she doesn't look all that attractive during her early 20's :P
