Another guessing game here. Guess what plant is this? Ok, 2 tips:
Tip #1 : As far as I know (I saw the box it came with), the bulbs are imported from China.
Tip #2 : Not sure why, I only get to see this for sale once a year, yes, for Chinese New Year!
So, any idea?

Lily?
Arrow Roots (Nga Ku Peng type I guees ) hehe.. Do fill us with answer Precious Pea ^^
Yeah i think its arrow roots too. But so huge! haha Come from China wan should be Chi Ku Peng root ady..samo near CNY...How did yours grew so beautifully?
looks like a remote family of the aloe vera, but then again, the question is: issit edible? *grin*
hav a blessed yr ahead my dear friend!! hope to see ya in oz some time this yr ;p
my guess is "arrow mushroom" or roots depends on the box label (",)
ganache-ganache: Happy New Year to you too! A pot? Hmm...i can send one bulb over but wonder it could survive all the way too KK.
unkaleong, tsukasa, cokeworld, shleesy: Neh...all wrong.
Jun: Happy New Year Babe!!! Yeah..next year i will be counting down in Melbourne oledi. Anyway...to answer your question..hm..that would be tip no.3: NOT EDIBLE!!
oh then it must be that flower...i dunno what name leh....I think I seen it on tv...it's like those tulip bulbs or sumthing.
me me, let me guess--it's narcissis, a kind of daffodil! it's called sui sen (water fairy) in chinese. my dad used to grow them for cny, but they only flower if weather is cold so u better send it to me bc i can grow it in kundasang:DD. so. like ganache, do i get a pot too??
should be lily, "pak hap"... is not arrow root, their leaf are different...
I get my house a dozen of "la mei" this year but is not as nice as artificial flower... maybe next year can get a pot of lily.
Happy New Year.
Hehe, so many guesses so I "guess" I don't try lah hor? :P
Nice way to drum up some anticipation for CNY. Me just want my binsful of bakwa! ;)
cokeworld citizen: Ahhh...been wanting to plant tulips. Next time i must sneak in some tulip bulbs!
terri: YOU ARE GOOD!!! Hahaha...so you mean they don't flower if i keep it outside? Oh dear...ermm..a silly question here...what if i put it in the fridge?
chenboon: So fast decorating for chinese new year oledi? I think i will start buying fresh flowers a few days before CNY.
kenny: Binsful of bakwa?? Share?
can we deep fry it like arrowheads??
HAPPY NEW YEAR, PRECIOUS PEA! ;)
at first i tot is the qi ku root.... hmmm.... now i know...
it is...sui sen (water fairy)..
learn something today....
Arrow Head a.k.a nga gu ?
no sunlight in the fridge so plant can't make food (photosynthesis) n will die. Best to keep it in a lighted but not direct sun area tt's cool (tt sounds like mebourne) n add ice cold water OFTEN. Frankly, it's best to buy a plant tt has already got buds. u can tell when the middle portion is thick and swollen.
It's narcissus. The only narcissus we see is the brand of canned mushrooms other food. look closely, i think you'll see the flower on the can.
available only at cny, it's a good feel to the coming spring or 'chun tien'
i also thought it was arrowroot. ooh, so unique hor.
So many geniuses out there...yes those bulbs are Sui Sin aka Narcissus or Water Fairy (direct Canto translation). I hope it will flower by CNY and will definitely take a pic of it to post it up!
since u have green fingers, i hope they will bloom ~ ^_^
Happy New Year!! ^O^
Waiting to see your plants with flowers soon. Good luck.
definitely is "Nga gu"!!! can see the fruit..hehe
